What effect did Reconstruction have on former slaves? Were they better off after Reconstruction than they were before the Civil War.

The Reconstruction had many effects on former slaves both good and bad.On one hand the slaves were free, on the other they did not have that much literacy knowledge, and slave owners would loose their workers. That caused a big problem for both slaves and slave owners. So from that problem came "Sharecroppers"a plan in which a slave owner would give the slave a piece of land in which he could grow crops. The slave would have to give a percentage of what he made in sells, also the slave owner would supply tools and other materials to grow the crops. The slave owner would charge an interest fee for the tool, they thought this would get them more money but all it did was cause dept.I believe that because the slave would have to pay so much money for their materials, they would barely make an income to give to their families.I also believe that what they went through was just as bad as slavery, because they wouldnt even make enough to move into their own home.

Was Lt. Col. Chamberlain right? Can a moral idea win a war

I believe that Col. Chamberlain was right. We as human beings always look for someone to lead us into victory, and Col. Chamberlain was that leader. As seen in the video he was still going to battle with or with out some of his troops, but that's what we look for in a leader fearlessness.I also believe that Col. Chamberlain is a righteous man, givin his troops the choices of going with him into battle. After he had that speech with his troops they all felt inspired to go into battle, and all because of a moral idea. For example he says this qouete "but it's not the land, theres always more land,it's the idea we all have of value".Thats what I believe is a true moral idea.

2.Why do you think that stereotypes are so widely known by so many in our society?

Stereotypes arent just known in our society, but through out the world.Stereotypes are mostly used to distinguish a races apart from everyone else.I think their known alot more in our society because of so many cultures that can be found in the U.S.I also believe that the media has some of the blame in this problem. For example theres this T.V show called "family guy" and even though is hilarious, the show is basicly made up of stereotypes.Thats my opinion on our society and stereotypes.

1.When Thoreau said, "that government is best which governs least", what do you think he meant? Do you agree or disagree? Explain

I believe Thoreau said that quote for one reason. The reason why is because he believes that the government has to much control over its people. He also believes that because the people would had freedom.I believe that this not not true.If the people now a days abuse the freedom we have now, it would just make it worst.A great example is the pastor down in Gains ville,Florida.I'll end it with that situation.

We have been lied to!

The question states"history is a lie commonly agreed upon." by Voltaire.Voltaire was a great french enlightenment writer and philosopher. He talks about how we been told this lies about history which we all believe.I believe its true because i have learned about some interesting thing in my class which i was never told as a child.I read this quote and i figured that Voltaire is trying to say that our government tales lies, and also cover up things, which i think is wrong.Everyone has a right to know what has really happened in the past no matter how violent it was. That is what i think Voltaire meant in this quote.
